The first half of the show will see performers improvising the origin stories of superheroes collaboratively created with the audience, and the second half will feature these characters coming together to fight a supervillain. A live artist will also be in attendance, drawing a cover to a KA-BAAM!! comic book during the show that will then be given to the audience member who provided performers with the best superhero suggestion.

Dr. Sketchy’s Twin Cities

What: Meet-Up, Arts
When: Sunday, May 31st at 2:00 p.m.
Where: 311 Club

Dr. Sketchy’s Twin Cities is our very own branch of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, “a rule breaking cocktail of dames, drinking, and drawing” that has become “the world’s premier alt.drawing movement.” Founded in 2005 in Brooklyn, New York, it has since spread to over 100 cities around the world “from Akron to Zagreb,” including Minneapolis. Elektra Cuete—assistant director of the Playful Peacock Showgirl Academy, producer of and performer with Black Hearts Burlesque, producer of the Minneapolis Burlesque Festival, and host of Dr. Sketchy’s Twin Cities—invites you to join her at the 331 Club for this Sunday’s session of drawing “glamorous underground performers in an atmosphere of boozy conviviality.“

The underground performer posing this month will be Damien D’Luxe, a performer who “began as an amateur at the Gay 90s with the 24K Kings and is now one of the co-show directors of Dragged Out at the Townhouse Bar.” At the end of the event, attendees can submit their artwork to be judged by Elektra and Damien; the artists of their favorite submissions will receive fabulous prizes from sponsors of Dr. Sketchy’s Twin Cities, including Blick Art Supplies, Fast Mary’s (Minneapolis-based maker of “bloody Mary enhancers”) and the Fox Den Salon (“your Uptown Minneapolis cool hair shop”), among others.

So, which of these events will you be attending? What events would you like to see featured in the future? Let us know in the comments section below or contact us via email. And don’t forget to add your events to the Twin Cities Geek Community Calendar!
