One such event is their Game Designer Session series, which meets on the second Friday and the last Tuesday of each month and invites those who have an idea for a game or who “enjoy tinkering with rules, graphic design, or game theory” to bring ideas and works in progress to be discussed and even play-tested by “game designers of all types and experience levels, from those employed in the industry to enthusiastic hobbyists.”

Minnesota Fringe Festival 2015

What: Theater & Comedy
When: Thursday, July 30th–Sunday, August 9th
Where: Various Venues throughout the Twin Cities

The 2015 version of the Minnesota Fringe Festival – which is “a forum for anyone with a story to tell. . .from stage veterans to people who are brand new to theater” – begins this Thursday. Accordingly, all the shows that you’ll see at the Fringe Festival are selected randomly “by placing numbered ping-pong balls into a bingo cage and pulling them out, one by one,” because “everyone has the capability to make great art, and – more importantly – everyone should get their chance to try.” For your chance to see these shows, as well as for more information about the full Fringe Festival 2015 “show lineup, ticketing, venues, and more,” please visit the Minnesota Fringe Festival website.

United Geeks of Gaming Open Gaming Session

Where: Waterbury Center

In addition to their Game Designer Sessions mentioned above, the Geek Partnership Society’s United Geeks of Gaming group also offers an Open Gaming session on the first Saturday of every month, to which gamers of all ages and abilities are invited in order to “spend the day hanging out with fellow geeks playing, learning, and teaching games.” Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite board game, card game, and/or role playing game, but the United Geeks of Gaming have amassed an impressive library of their own games as well.

Geek Partnership Society Ice Cream Social

What: Meet-Up, Ice Cream Social
When: Saturday, August 1st at 12:00 p.m.
Where: Phalen Regional Park

After you have spent a few hours gaming with the Geek Partnership Society at the Waterbury Center in Minneapolis, you are also invited to join them at the picnic shelter at Phalen Regional Park in St. Paul for their annual ice cream social. They will be providing the ice cream and basic toppings, as well as a variety of park-appropriate games, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own homemade ice cream toppings; and if enough do so, “there may even be a contest!”

Summit Brewing Company Unchained 19: Make It So Release Party

What: Meet-Up, Beer
When: Saturday, August 1st at 5:00 p.m.
Where: Summit Brewing Company

Finally, after you have spent your Saturday morning gaming with the Geek Partnership Society and your afternoon eating ice cream with them, spend your evening and night at a very special event hosted by the Summit Brewing Company as they celebrate the release of their newest beer, Unchained 19: Make It So. Crafted by brewer Nick Hempfer, Make It So is “an Extra Special Bitter infused with Earl Grey Tea,” as well as “a tribute to one of Nick’s other favorite things, Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

In addition to the opportunity to be one of the first beer lovers to try this unique beer, attendees will also be able to “dress up to compete in a Star Trek-themed costume contest”, “interact with life-sized Star Trek props from local fan club USS Nokomis,” and enjoy the “sci-fi spinning” of DJ Nemo.

If you are unable to attend this event, Unchained 19: Make It So will be available at bars and restaurants and in stores the following week.

So, which of these events will you be attending? What events would you like to see featured in the future? Let us know in the comments section below or contact us via email. And don’t forget to add your events to the Twin Cities Geek Community Calendar!
