Girly Book Club: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doer

What: Meet-Up, Books
When: Monday, February 29th at 6:45 p.m.
Where: Kieran’s Irish Pub

The Minneapolis chapter of the Girly Book Club is hosting a meet-up at Kieran’s Irish Pub tonight at 6:45 p.m. The book being read for and discussed at this meeting (to which new members are welcome) is All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doer.

Books & Bars: Blindness by Jose Saramago

What: Meet-Up, Books,
When: Tuesday, March 1st at 6:15 p.m.
Where: The Happy Gnome

Books & Bars is an “open public book club show” hosted and moderated by Minnesota Public Radio senior producer Jeff Kamin that provides attendees with “a unique atmosphere for a lively discussion of interesting authors, fun people, good food and social lubrication.” The book being read and discussed this month is Blindness by Jose Saramago.

Geeks Read

What: Meet-Up, Books
When: Tuesday, March 1st at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Waterbury Center

The Geek Partnership Society’s book club, Geeks Read, explores books that are important to the history of the science-fiction, fantasy, and horror genres or to “our own personal histories.” The club meets on the first Tuesday of every month and provides a potluck of treats to accompany (and fuel) discussion, so “feel free to bring something tasty!”

YogaQuest Continues

What: Sport & Fitness
When: Tuesday, March 1st at 7:00 p.m.
Where: YQdio

YogaQuest is “a unique blend of yoga and fan-fiction storytelling . . . unlike any yoga class you may have experienced before!” Guided by a certified yoga instructor who also serves as narrator, the class “embarks on an epic and often ridiculous journey through a popular fandom.”

Acronym Battle!

What: Theater & Comedy
When: Wednesday, March 2nd at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Club Underground

From Modern Antics (the creators of Pundamonium: The Twin Cities Pun Slam!) and Spare Squares Trivia (the creators of TC Trek Trivia and Must See TriVia) comes their latest event: Acronym Battle, which is “just what it sounds like: eight contestants face off to make up definitions to acronyms and try to woo five audience judges to vote for them.” There will be three acronyms per round, three rounds, and one winner.

Let’s Meet Up and Draw Jam Comics

What: Meet-Up, Arts, Comics
When: Thursday, March 3rd at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Diamonds Coffee Shoppe

Cartoonists Conspiracy Twin Cities meets at Diamonds Coffee Shoppe in Minneapolis on the first Thursday of every month to “draw collaborative jam comics, socialize, and drink caffeinated beverages.” Anyone interested in drawing and/or jamming with them is invited!

Crafty Geek Meetup

What: Meet-Up, Crafts
When: Thursday, March 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Waterbury Center

The Geek Partnership Society’s Crafty Geek club and its sub-club Make It Sew meet Thursday evenings at the Waterbury Center and invite you to “bring your crafty stuff to do” or to “hang out and work with the crafty stuff we have here!”

Weekly Comics Chat

What: Meet-Up, Comics
When: Thursday, March 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Kitty Cat Klub

The Girls-Only Comic Club hosts a Weekly Comics Chat on Thursday nights at the Kitty Cat Klub, where there will be “Coffee! Comics! Waffles! Talking!” Additional information about this event is posted on the Girls Only Comics Club’s Facebook group; individuals interested in attending are encouraged to join.

Open Gaming

What: Meet-Up, Gaming
When: Saturday, March 5th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Waterbury Center

The Geek Partnership Society’s United Geeks of Gaming group offers an Open Gaming session on the first Saturday of every month, to which gamers of all ages and abilities are invited in order to “spend the day hanging out with fellow geeks playing, learning, and teaching games.” Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite board games, card games, and/or role-playing games, but the United Geeks of Gaming have amassed an impressive library of their own games as well.

Saturday Morning Cartoons

What: Sport & Fitness
When: Saturday, March 5th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: YQdio

Another event held at the YogaQuest YQdio is Saturday Morning Cartoons, which features “classic (and not-so-classic) Saturday morning cartoons, plus yoga, plus the stupidest cereals in existence!” The yoga practice will consist of “some gentle wake-me-up vinyasa followed by a session of stretchy, restorative yoga, all set to cartoons, and wrapped up with a bowl of delicious technicolor goodness.”

RPG Sunday Game Day

What: Meet-Up, Gaming
When: Sunday, March 6th at 11:00 a.m.
Where: Waterbury Center

The United Geeks of Gaming invite you to another type of game day during the NFL’s off-season: RPG Sunday Game Day! Whether you are an experienced game master wanting to run a game or someone entirely new to the world of role-playing games who wants to join a game and learn as you go, this is the Sunday game day for you.
