Knitting Social

What: Meetup, Arts, Crafts
When: Tuesday, November 15th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Minnesota History Center

Come together with fellow knitters, and represent your favorite football team with the Scoreboard Knit-Along Project. This free event is hosted at the Minnesota History Center and is inspired by their new exhibit Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Café Scientifique

What: Educational
When: Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Bryant Lake Bowl

Café Scientifique, presented by the Bell Museum of Natural History, is “a happy hour exchange of ideas about science, environment, and popular culture featuring experts from a variety of fields on diverse and often provocative topics.”

Geek Date Night: Space Jam

What: Movie Screening, Trivia
When: Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Clubhouse Jäger

In commemoration of Space Jam’s 20th anniversary on the 15th, Geek Date Night will host a 21+ film and trivia night this week with Space Jam. Dunk on fellow Space Jam fans in trivia starting at 7:00, and stay for the film screening at 9:00.

The Not-So-Silent Planet: A Speculative Open-Mic

What: Science Fiction,
When: Tuesday, November 15th at 8:30 p.m.
Where: Kieran’s Irish Pub

The Minnesota Speculative Fiction Writers will be hosting its monthly speculative open-mic session, the Twin Cities’ “first open-mic dedicated to speculative interpretations of myth,” at Kieran’s Irish Pub this Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. (doors and sign-up at 8:00). The featured performer for this month’s session is Javier Morillo; others are invited to perform for five- to seven-minute sets and tell attendees about worlds “whose laws of physics differ from our own” and places “of which we’ve never dreamt.”

Northeast Winter Farmers Market

What: Food & Drink
When: Wednesday, November 16th at 4:00 p.m.
Where: Solar Arts by Chowgirls

Meet up with Northeast locals while supporting local food vendors. Enjoy local beer, dance along to DJ sets, and stay jolly as it gets colder. There will be activities for all ages.

Where: Black Dog Coffee and Wine Bar

The Twin Cities Elysium Society hosts a casual meetup on the third Wednesday of each month. This group is “a community and a resource for all manner of goth, not-goth, darksider, freak, punk, metal, steam, cyber, rivet, Victorian, romantic, grufti, espeluznante, emo, otaku, morbidly inclined, dark creative, what-have-you (you know who you are).”

Elf-Care: Grounding and Focus

What: Sport & Fitness
When: Wednesday, November 16th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: YQdio

Stay focused and grounded in order to handle holiday stress. This is the first in YogaQuest’s Elf-Care: Self-Care Boot Camp For the Holidays series, a six-class series aimed at keeping you healthy during the holidays.

Settlers of Catan Tournament

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Thursday, November 17th at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Mischief Toy Store

Test your sheep-, stone-, and wood-trading mettle in this Settlers of Catan tournament at Mischief Toy Store. A $5 entry fee gives you a shot at an awesome prize and bragging rights.

Crafty Geek/Make it Sew

What: Meetup, Arts, Crafts
When: Thursday, November 17th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Event Horizon at the Waterbury Center

The Geek Partnership Society’s Crafty Geek club and its sub-club Make It Sew meet Thursday evenings at the Waterbury Center and invite you to “bring your crafty stuff to do” or to “hang out and work with the crafty stuff we have here!”

Gamer’s Rhapsody

What: Gaming, Convention
When: Friday November 18th at 2:00 p.m.–November 20th at 5:00 p.m.
Where: DoubleTree Park Place

Celebrate the art, music, development and design of video games at the third Gamer’s Rhapsody Convention in St. Louis Park. Participate in tournaments, see speed runs, and jam out to video game music—and be sure to stop by the Twin Cities Geek table to say hi to us! Tickets are $25 to $35; see the convention website for more details.

Star Party with the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics

What: Educational, Meetup
When: Friday November 18th at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Bell Museum of Natural History

“Explore the sky with astronomers from the Bell and the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics” on the first and third Fridays of every month. Each of these free, family-friendly stargazing parties consists of a presentation by an astronomy graduate student followed by telescope viewing in the Bell courtyard. This month will feature Einstein’s Theory of Gravity.

Minnesota Miniatures Gaming Association ReCon

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Saturday, November 19th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Event Horizon at the Waterbury Center

Come on down to Event Horizon for MMGA’s quarterly meeting of miniatures gamers. There is a $5 entry fee for adults, or $2.50 for children under the age of 14. There will be a variety of miniatures games available to play, including historical, fantasy and science fiction. There will also be a selection of strategy board games.

Math and Science Family Fun Fair

What: Educational, Meetup
When: Saturday, November 19th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Coffman Memorial Union, University of Minnesota

The Math and Science Family Fun Fair is free and open to the public. The event features activities, hands-on exhibits, and presentations aimed at making science, technology, engineering and mathematics fun. There will be robots, papermaking, and hidden microworlds to discover.

Love Local: Minnesota Center for Book Arts Holiday Sale

What: Meetup, Crafts, Books
When: Saturday, November 19th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Minnesota Center for Book Arts

MCBA is hosting its 15th annual holiday sale, focused on local and handmade goods from the Twin Cities. There will be dozens of local and regional artists selling their work, along with free hands-on crafting activities for all ages.

SOUND+VISION MN Pop Culture Collectibles Show

What: Convention, Comics, Gaming
When: Saturday, November 19th at 9:00 a.m.
Where: Valley Creek Mall

This show features vendors with new and used, vintage and rare music, comics, toys, memorabilia and more. Special guest, artist Brent Schoonover of Marvel, Surly, and DC Comics fame will be in attendance.

North Star Roller Girls: NSRG 3K

What: Sport & Fitness
When: Saturday, November 19th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum

See the the Delta Delta Di, the Kilmore Girls, the Banger Sisters, and the Violent Femmes face off in Bout 1 of North Star Roller Girls’ 11th season. This bout promises new rookies who can lead their teams to roller-glory.

Board Game Event: For the Child in All of Us

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Sunday, November 20th at 4:00 p.m.
Where: Bad Weather Brewing Company

Help raise money for Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota while playing board games at Bad Weather Brewing Company. Bring your own games, or play those that are already there. Donations will be accepted, and there’s a silent auction from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

WordBrew MN

What: Books, Science Fiction, Meetup
When: Sunday, November 20th at 2:00 p.m.
Where: Acadia

WordBrew MN presents its 2016 local author showcase at Acadia on Cedar Avenue, giving local speculative fiction writers a chance to take the stage and read brief selections from their work. Later enjoy drinks and appetizers with writers.

WTF Comics Club

What: Comics, Meetup
When: Sunday, November 20th at 3:30 p.m.
Where: Boneshaker Books

WTF Comics Club will be meeting up at Boneshaker Books to discuss Noelle Stevenson’s Lumberjanes with moderator Eli Effinger-Weintraub. (Boneshaker is also one of the drop-off sites for the Twin Cities Geek Holiday Toy & Book Drive, so if you have any items to donate, be sure to bring them with you!)
