Tabletop Tuesdays at Glitch

In this casual game night, bring your own games or make use of Glitch‘s tabletop game library. Organizers will be there to help teach games, and all skill levels are encouraged to attend.

History Flirt: ’90s Holidays

What: Meetup, History
When: Tuesday, December 6th at 5:00 p.m.
Where: Minnesota History Center

Come on down to the Minnesota History Center for History Flirt, a free happy hour for young adults. The theme this week is ’90s-style holiday spirit, with old-school gadgets, old commercials, and tunes provided by Flip Phone. Meet Michelle Leon of Babes in Toyland, and get your photo taken with a retro backdrop.

Books and Bars: Fates and Furies

When: Tuesday, December 5th at 6:15 p.m.
Where: The Happy Gnome

Books and Bars is an “open public book club show” hosted and moderated by Minnesota Public Radio senior producer Jeff Kamin that provides attendees with “a unique atmosphere for a lively discussion of interesting authors, fun people, good food and social lubrication.” The book being read and discussed this month is Fates and Furies by Lauren Graff.

YogaQuest Continues: Gremlins

When: Tuesday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: YQdio

Come and experience YogaQuest, a blend of yoga and fanfiction storytelling led by certified yoga instructors. Experience a yoga workout experience and a story at the same time. This week’s theme is Gremlins.

Elf-Care: Go With the Flow

What: Sport & Fitness
When: Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: YQdio

Stay focused and grounded in order to handle holiday stress. This is the fourth in YogaQuest’s Elf-Care: Self-Care Boot Camp for the Holidays, a six-class series aimed at keeping you healthy during the holidays.

New Comic Book Day with Elliot Rahal and Grace Thomas

What: Comics, Meetup
When: Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00 pm
Where: Day Block Brewing Company

This 21+ event at Day Block Brewing is the first in a weekly series of new comic book days. See the debut of interesting new comic books, and hear sets from local comedians. This week’s hosts are Elliot Rahal and Grace Thomas.

The World at Her Best: The Muppet Christmas Carol at the Parkway

When: Thursday, December 8th at 5:00 p.m.
Where: Parkway Theater

Twin Cities Geek and The Parkway Theater are teaming up to bring you a special holiday event! Because if we have to get in gear for the Christmas season, we might as well do it with Muppets. Bring your friends, your sweetie, or your kids to enjoy this classic on the big screen! As Kermit says, “The world is at her best, you know, when people love and care.” Admission is just $2, or absolutely FREE if you bring a donation for the 2016 Twin Cities Geek Holiday Toy & Book Drive!

Weekly Comics Chat

Where: Kitty Cat Klub

The Girls Only Comic Club hosts a Weekly Comics Chat on Thursday nights at the Kitty Cat Klub, where there will be “Coffee! Comics! Waffles! Talking!” Additional information about this event is posted on the Girls Only Comic Club’s Facebook group. Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to join.

One-Shot Comics: Rolling Blackouts

What: Meetup, Comics
When: Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Moon Palace Books

One-Shot Comics (formerly known as the Beer + Comics book club) meets monthly at Moon Palace Books in Minneapolis to discuss a selected comic or graphic novel. November’s pick is the nonfiction graphic novel Rolling Blackouts by Sarah Glidden.

Crafty Geek/Make It Sew

What: Crafts, Meetup
When: Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Waterbury Center

The Geek Partnership Society’s Crafty Geek club and its sub-club Make It Sew meet Thursday evenings at the Waterbury Center and invite you to “bring your crafty stuff to do” or to “hang out and work with the crafty stuff we have here!”

A Minnesota Nutcracker

What: Theater & Comedy
When: Friday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, December 7th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; Sunday, December 11th at 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Where: Ames Center

Take in a performance of the classic holiday performance by the Twin Cities Ballet of Minnesota. Enjoy the music of Tchaikovsky, beautiful dancing, and performances, all with a Minnesota twist. Tickets range from $18 to $32.

Bell Social Art + Science + Har Mar Superstar

What: Educational, Meetup, Science
When: Friday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Bell Museum of Natural History

The Bell Social will be putting on a spectacular final show in its Minneapolis location, with a mini “science cabaret” on the ethnopharmacology of energy drinks and much more. Music will be provided by special guest Har Mar Superstar. Enjoy trivia, a cash bar, and food from Café Racer. Tickets are $20 for the general public and $15 for U of M staff and students.

Harry Potter Magical Holiday Ball

What: Meetup, Books, Crafting
When: Friday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Barnes and Noble Stores

Dress up as your favorite Harry Potter character and take part in an enchanted night of dancing, crafting and giveaways. See the Barnes and Noble website to find the location nearest you.

Gizmonic Institute Presents: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

What: Meetup, Movies & Films
When: Friday, December 9th at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Schmidt Artist Lofts

Revel in the holiday spirit as Santa Claus defends the children (and adults) of Earth by heroically conquering the Martians in this viewing of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode. Food and drink are welcome at this free event, full of the sort of holiday mirth that can only come from a truly ridiculous film.

Tsuinishi Anime Club

When: Friday, December 9th at 8:30 p.m.
Where: Geek Partnership Society

Anime Twin Cities has joined forces with the Geek Partnership Society “to bring a little bit of fun to you on the second and fourth Fridays of each month with this cosponsored anime club,” and at which they will show various anime movies and series.

Friday Night Magic: Kaladesh Draft Event

What: Meetup, Gaming
When: Friday, December 9th at
Where: Mischief Toy Store

Mischief Toy Store in St. Paul invites you to experience some Magic with them this Friday night with a special Kaladesh draft. Entry is $15; all players will receive prizes. This weekly event is limited to 24 players and typically lasts until about 9:00 p.m. All skill levels are welcome.

Meet up with fellow geeks to discuss a book and then see the film adaptation of it. This is a free regular event that rotates between Event Horizon and members’ homes.

Fantastic Beasts of Harry Potter’s World

What: Educational, Books, Meetup, Crafting
When: Saturday, December 10th at 2:00 p.m.
Where: Metropolitan State University Library and Learning Center

This family friendly event is free to the public and includes an array of fantastic raptors and reptiles from The Raptor Center and the RAD Zoo. Participants can also add their own beasts to the Beast Book and work on a variety of crafts.

Geek Partnership Society Movie Night: The Force Awakens

What: Movies, Meetups
When: Saturday, December 10th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Event Horizon at the Waterbury Building

Join your fellow geeks for a screening of 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens just in time to prepare for Rogue One. This is a free event, but you should RSVP to be sure to get a spot. There will also be a second film chosen by popular vote during the intermission. Cosplay encouraged.
