YogaQuest Continues: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

What: Sports & Fitness
When: Tuesday, January 10th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: YQdio

Come and experience YogaQuest, a blend of yoga and fanfiction storytelling led by certified yoga instructors. Experience a yoga workout experience and a story at the same time. This week’s theme is Buffy!

Books and Bars: The Kind Worth Killing

What: Books, Meetup
When: Tuesday, January 10th at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Indeed Tap Room

Books & Bars is an “open public book club show” hosted and moderated by Minnesota Public Radio senior producer Jeff Kamin that provides attendees with “a unique atmosphere for a lively discussion of interesting authors, fun people, good food and social lubrication.” The book being read and discussed this month is The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson

TC Trek Trivia

What: Trivia
When: Wednesday, January 11th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Driftwood Char Bar

Hosted by “Master Trekkie” (featured in our article “Meet Minnesota Cosplayers”), TC Trek Trivia consists of five rounds: General Trek (questions covering all things Star Trek); Identify the Image; Ships, Technology, and Cultures; Complete the Quote; and a “Wild Card” round. Questions for each of these five rounds are drawn from all seven Star Trek television series and all twelve films. According to Master Trekkie himself, TC Trek Trivia is “all ages, no cover, food, drinks and a whole lot of Trek!”

Social Science: Sports

What: Meetup, Educational, Nightlife
When: Thursday, January 12th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Science Museum of Minnesota

Social Science is the themed “adult night” at the Science Museum of Minnesota, “welcoming those 21 and over to grab a drink, enjoy the museum, and experience innovative programming.” The theme this Thursday night is sports, which coordinates with the museum’s Sportsology exhibit and will have you “put your brain and brawn to the test to gain a better understanding of the extraordinary human processes that allow us to compete.”

Crafty Geek/Make it Sew

What: Crafting, Meetup
When: Thursday, January 12th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Event Horizon

The Geek Partnership Society’s Crafty Geek club and its sub-club Make It Sew meet Thursday evenings at the Waterbury Center and invite you to “bring your crafty stuff to do” or to “hang out and work with the crafty stuff we have here!”

Weekly Comics Chat

What: Comics, Meetup
When: Thursday, January 12th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Kitty Cat Club

The Girls Only Comic Club hosts a Weekly Comics Chat on Thursday nights at the Kitty Cat Klub, where there will be “Coffee! Comics! Waffles! Talking!” Additional information about this event is posted on the Girls Only Comic Club’s Facebook group. Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to join.

Tsuinshi Anime Club

What: Screening, Meetup
When: Friday, January 13th at 8:30 p.m.
Where: Geek Partnership Society

Anime Twin Cities has joined forces with the Geek Partnership Society “to bring a little bit of fun to you on the second and fourth Fridays of each month with this cosponsored anime club,” and at which they will show various anime movies and series.

Friday Night Magic

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Friday, January 13th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Mischief Toy Store

Mischief Toy Store in St. Paul invites you to experience some Magic with them this Friday night with a Kaladesh draft. Entry is $15; all players will receive prizes. This weekly event is limited to 24 players and typically lasts until about 9:00 p.m. All skill levels are welcome.

GPS Movie Night

What: Screening, Meetup, Movies
When: Friday, January 13th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Geek Partnership Society

The Geek Partnership Society invites you to attend a science-fiction double feature this Friday night. If you can’t figure out what the films are based on the oh-so-mysterious descriptions on the event page, RSVP and find out the details in the confirmation email.

Read the Book/See The Movie

What: Movies & Films, Meetup, Books
When: Friday, January 13th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: TBD (see event listing)

Meet up with fellow geeks to discuss a book and then see the film adaptation of it. This is a free regular event that rotates between Event Horizon and members’ homes.

Candy Fresh

What: Nightlife, Meetup
When: Friday, January 13th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: St. Paul Neighborhood Network

Come on down to SPNN for the open filming of Candy Fresh’s first show of 2017 (technically episode 3 of season 2.) Described as the sweetest show in the Twin Cities, Candy Fresh features hosts Miss Brit and Sanni Brown, with a special guest: top gospel artist Jovonta Patton.

Ramsey After Dark: Victorian Superstitions

What: Educational, Meetup
When: Friday, January 13th at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Where: Alexander Ramsey House

Take advantage of spooky Friday the 13th vibes and learn about the superstitions that formed a major part of Victorian society in this 18+ event put on by the Minnesota Historial Society. You’ll get to learn about the Victorian world from journals, letters, and Victorian fortune-telling Games.

Saturday Morning Cartoons

What: Sports & Fitness, Screening
When: Saturday, January 14th at 10:00 a.m
Where: YQdio

Yet another event held at the YogaQuest YQdio this week is Saturday Morning Cartoons, which features “classic (and not-so-classic) Saturday morning cartoons, plus yoga, plus the stupidest cereals in existence!” The yoga practice will consist of “some gentle wake-me-up vinyasa followed by a session of stretchy, restorative yoga, all set to cartoons, and wrapped up with a bowl of delicious technicolor goodness.”

January Game Night

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Saturday, January 14th at 6:00 p.m
Where: The Source Comics and Games

This board game night for one and all is hosted by the Source Comics and Games and sponsored by R&R Games. There will be plenty of games on hand for this free event, including Hanabi, Happy Panda, and Fuse, and guests are encouraged to bring their own games to share.

Shieldmaiden Sundays

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Sunday, January 15th at 12:00 p.m.
Where: The Source Comics and Games

Shieldmaiden Sundays are a new dedicated space for female nerds and geeks at the Source. This will be a recurring weekly event providing a space for women to game, chat about comics, cosplay, or just enjoy the company of other geeks.

Light Up the Night

What: Crafting, Meetup, Nightlife
When: Sunday, January 15th at 8:30 p.m.
Where: Wicked Wort Brewing Co.

Wicked Wort Brewing in Robbinsdale is hosting a unique social art event. Gather with a others in their tap room to create a wintery masterpiece, to be decorated with lights and hung with care. This is a 21+ event with a $37 materials fee, which must be paid in advance due to limited space.
