YogaQuest Continues: Steven Universe

Come and experience YogaQuest, a blend of yoga and fanfiction storytelling led by certified yoga instructors. Experience a yoga workout experience and a story at the same time. This week’s theme is a fan favorite, Steven Universe.

Books and Bars: The Sellout

What: Books, Meetup
When: Tuesday, April 11th at 6:15 p.m.
Where: Indeed Tap Room

Books and Bars is an “open public book club show” hosted and moderated by Minnesota Public Radio senior producer Jeff Kamin that provides attendees with “a unique atmosphere for a lively discussion of interesting authors, fun people, good food, and social lubrication.” The book being read and discussed this month is The Sellout by Paul Beatty.

Let’s Nerd Out 05

What: Nightlife, Meetup, Educational
When: Tuesday, April 11th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Nomad World Pub

Come to the Nomad World Pub for a series of talks about various nerdy and nerd adjacent topics from a variety of presenters. This free event is presented by the Nerds of the Twin Cities, and features the following talks: “Tekumel: the First RPG Setting” by Bob Alberti, Tresurer of the Tekumel Foundation, “Science: Why?” by Samuel Fletcher, assistant professor in the philosophy department at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and “Talking, Texting, and Trump” by David Montgomery, journalist and history buff.

Michael T. Osterholm for Deadliest Enemy

When: Tuesday, April 11th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: SubText Books

SubText Books will be hosting Michael T. Osterholm for a reading and discussion centered around his new book Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs, with a book signing to follow. Inform yourself about the race between modern medical science, ever-evolving germs and an increasingly interconnected and global world.

The MN Publishing Tweet Up goes to the Dubliner Pub & Cafe

When: Wednesday, April 12 at 5:00 p.m.
Where: The Dubliner Pub And Café

Meet up with book geeks and publishing insiders at the Dubliner. This is a free event, and a great opportunity to meet other Minnesota bibliophiles and to network.

Get Superpowered! Boss Battle

What: Sports & Fitness, Meetup
When: Wednesday, April 12th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: YQdio

Also at YogaQuest’s studio this week is a night to feel superpowered. Use yoga flow to explore a variety of superpowers you possess, but might not have been aware of in a unique narrative experience. Per the event listing, capes are optional and all skill levels are welcome.

TC Trek Trivia

What: Trivia
When: Wednesday, April 12th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Driftwood Char Bar

Hosted by “Master Trekkie,” TC Trek Trivia consists of five rounds: General Trek (questions covering all things Star Trek); Identify the Image; Ships, Technology, and Cultures; Complete the Quote; and a “Wild Card” round. Questions for each of these five rounds are drawn from all seven Star Trek television series and all twelve films. According to Master Trekkie himself, TC Trek Trivia is “all ages, no cover, food, drinks, and a whole lot of Trek!”

Crafty Geek/Make it Sew

What: Crafting, Meetup
When: Thursday, April 13th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Event Horizon

The Geek Partnership Society’s Crafty Geek club and its sub-club Make It Sew meet Thursday evenings at the Waterbury Center and invite you to “bring your crafty stuff to do” or to “hang out and work with the crafty stuff we have here!”

Weekly Comics Chat

What: Meetup, Comics
When: Thursday, April 13th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Kitty Cat Klub

The Girls-Only Comic Club hosts a Weekly Comics Chat on Thursday nights at the Kitty Cat Klub, where there will be “Coffee! Comics! Waffles! Talking!” Additional information about this event is posted on the Girls Only Comic Club’s Facebook group. Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to join.

Can Can Wonderland Variety Show

What: Nightlife, Arts and Theater
When: Thursday, April 13th at 9:00 p.m.
Where: Can Can Wonderland

Can Can Wonderland presents a weekly variety show. The night will play out in four acts, with musical accompaniment from a house band and local celebrity hosts. You never know what you’re in for. This is a 21+ event.

Trivia Against Humanity

What: Trivia, Nightlife
When: Thursday, April 13th at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Clockwerks Brewing

Come to Clockwerks brewing for the convergence of two geeky favorites: a steampunk-themed bar and absurd trivia. This trivia night is hosted by Sam Spadino and Sidney Oxborough.

Martial Arts at GPS

What: Sports & Fitness
When: Thursday, April 13th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Event Horizon

Geek Physique is partnering with White Tiger Martial Arts Basic for two classes, one focused on Korean sword arts and the other on taekwondo and basic self-defense. Admission is free, and participants must be at least 12 years old.

Friday Night Magic

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Friday, April 14th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Mischief Toy Store

Mischief Toy Store in St. Paul invites you to experience some Magic with them this Friday night. Entry is $5; all players will receive prizes. This weekly event is limited to 24 players and typically lasts until about 9:00 p.m. All skill levels are welcome.

Lounge 2.0

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Friday, April 14th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: GlitchHQ

Another event this week at GlitchHQ, Lounge 2.0 is a get-together for people who are passionate about games and want to spend their Friday nights in like-minded company. Glitch offers consoles, PC stations, and tabletop and digital games. If you’re passionate about a game, bring it to share with the community.

Anything But Clothes Party

What: Meetup, Cosplay, Nightlife
When: Friday, April 14th at 10:00 p.m.
Where: Ground Zero

Clothes can be a little bland, so come on down to Ground Zero for a party where you can get away with anything other than clothes. Expect glitter, bizarre costume choices, goofiness and a great dancing. Come before 11 pm to take advantage of the free glitter stations. This is a 21+ event, and there is no cover if you come in costume.

PowerPoint Karaoke

What: Theater & Comedy
When: Friday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Fantasy Flight Games Center

In Fearless Comedy Productions’ PowerPoint Karaoke, “Come see four people give a PowerPoint presentation using slides they have never seen before and that make absolutely no sense!” Get $3 off your ticket with with a CONvergence badge, Geek card, Minnesota Fringe button, or Fantasy Flight Games Center receipt. Read the Book/See the Movie

Meet up with fellow geeks to discuss a book and then see the film adaptation of it. This is a free regular event that rotates between Event Horizon and members’ homes.

Tsuinshi Anime Club

What: Screening, Meetup
When: Friday, April 14th at 8:30 p.m.
Where: Geek Partnership Society

Anime Twin Cities has joined forces with the Geek Partnership Society “to bring a little bit of fun to you on the second and fourth Fridays of each month with this co-sponsored anime club,” at which they will show various anime movies and series.

Saturday Morning Cartoons

What: Sports & Fitness, Meetup
When: Saturday, April 15th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: YQdio

Another event held at the YogaQuest YQdio this week is Saturday Morning Cartoons, which features “classic (and not-so-classic) Saturday morning cartoons, plus yoga, plus the stupidest cereals in existence!” The yoga practice will consist of “some gentle wake-me-up vinyasa followed by a session of stretchy, restorative yoga, all set to cartoons, and wrapped up with a bowl of delicious technicolor goodness.”

GPS Open Gaming

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Saturday, April 15th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Event Horizon at the Waterbury Building

The Geek Partnership Society’s United Geeks of Gaming group offers its Open Gaming session on the first Saturday of every month, to which gamers of all ages and abilities are invited in order to “spend the day hanging out with fellow geeks playing, learning, and teaching games.” Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite board games, card games, and/or role-playing games, but the groups has amassed an impressive library of its own games as well.

MST3K: Screening, Guest QnA, and Giveaway!

What: Screening, Meetup
When: Saturday, April 15th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Slam Academy

Mystery Science Theater 3000 is returning, and you can celebrate this momentous event with a screening, Q & A session, DJ set, and theremin giveaway! This free event will include a screening of the first episode, a chance to ask questions with Chuck Love and Tom Scott (composer and music producers for the show), and have a chance at winning a sweet Moog theremin.

RPG Sunday Game Day

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Sunday, April 16th at 11:00 a.m.
Where: Event Horizon at the Waterbury Center

The United Geeks of Gaming group invite you to RPG Sunday Game Day! Whether you are an experienced game master wanting to run a game or someone entirely new to the world of role-playing games who wants to join a game and learn as you go, this is the Sunday game day for you.
