What: Movies
When: Monday, November 6th and Tuesday 7th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Trylon Cinema

Andrei Tartovsky’s Stalker is a tremendous work of Russian cinema about seeking wish fulfillment in a bleak world. The Trylon will be screening it as part of its series “Sculpting in Time: The Films of Andrei Tartovsky.” Tickets are $8 for your trip to the Zone (and luckily they’re round-trip, so you don’t need to worry about getting stranded).

Star Trek: Discovery Viewing Party

When: Monday, November 6th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Parkway Theater

Star Trek has returned to the small screen with a new series, Star Trek: Discovery, and this is a chance to celebrate with your fellow Trekkies, Trekkers, and other geeks. TC Trek Trivia is organizing this event, which is free and all ages and will continue every Monday throughout the run of the season.

Queens United/Reinas Unidas: A Drag Show for Puerto Rico

What: Community, Arts, Music
When: Monday, November 6th at 8:30 p.m.
Where: First Avenue

Get your drag-geek on and help support relief efforts in Puerto Rico with this drag show presented by Phi Phi O’Hara and Flip Phone at First Avenue. Proceeds of the show will benefit Somos Una Voz, a charity established by Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony to aid in Puerto Rico relief efforts. The show is hosted by Ginger Minj and Naysha Lopez, and tickets start at $75, with a $150 ticket available for a Meet and Greet Package. This is an 18-plus event.

Books & Bars: Frankenstein

What: Books, Food & Drink
When: Tuesday, November 7th at 5:00 p.m.
Where: Amsterdam Bar and Hall

Books and Bars is an “open public book club show” hosted and moderated by Minnesota Public Radio senior producer Jeff Kamin that provides attendees with “a unique atmosphere for a lively discussion of interesting authors, fun people, good food, and social lubrication.” The book being read and discussed this month is Frankenstein.

Tea and Meeples Board Games

What: Food & Drink, Meetup
When: Tuesday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: 7512 Pillsbury Ave. S. Richfield

Enjoy a night of community and tea with Tea and Meeples, a weekly gathering of friendly geeks at “Panda Castle” in Richfield. This week’s theme is the Board Games, so be ready to chase your tea and company with some board game fun.

YogaQuest Continues: Thor

What: Sports & Fitness
When: Tuesday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: YQdio

Come and experience YogaQuest, a blend of yoga and fanfiction storytelling led by certified yoga instructors. Experience a yoga workout experience and a story at the same time. This week’s theme is Thor, so get in an Asgardian mood to celebrate Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok. This event costs $15.

John Carpenter: Anthology Tour

What: Music, Movies
When: Tuesday, November 7th at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Myth Live

John Carpenter is well known as a horror and science-fiction legend, with credits under his belt including The Thing and Escape From New York. What some don’t know is that Carpenter is a prolific musician with many soundtrack credits as well, including the theme to Halloween and many more. Tickets for this show start at $45, with VIP and meet-and-greet options also available for $100 and $180 respectively.

Game Night at the Gaming Goat Grand Ave.

What: Gaming
When: Wednesday, November 8th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: The Gaming Goat

Game on at the Gaming Goat in St. Paul! This is a free night with space to accommodate roughly 35 people. Feel free to bring your own games to share or try other people’s favorites.

TC Trek Trivia

What: Trivia
When: Wednesday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Driftwood Char Bar

Hosted by Master Trekkie, TC Trek Trivia consists of five rounds: General Trek (questions covering all things Star Trek); Identify the Image; Ships, Technology, and Cultures; Complete the Quote; and a “Wild Card” round. Questions for each of these five rounds are drawn from all seven Star Trek television series and all 12 films. According to Master Trekkie himself, TC Trek Trivia is “all ages, no cover, food, drinks, and a whole lot of Trek!”

Transmission Debut at the VFW

When: Wednesday, November 8th at 10:00 p.m.
Where: James Ballentine “Uptown” VFW

Local DJ Jake Rudh resumes the popular Transmission Dance night at a brand new location, the James Ballentine “Uptown” VFW. Come for the largest dance floor in Transmission history, two rooms of videos and music, drink specials, literal rock-star bartenders Lori Barbero of Babes In Toyland and Tea Simpson of L’Assassins, and the same post-punk, new-wave, and indie dance tunes that made Transmission famous.

Catching Fire Yoga

What: Sports & Fitness, Books
When: Thursday, November 9th at 5:30 p.m.
Where: YQdio

Catching Fire yoga is a new class about radical self-acceptance and love based on the messages put forth in The Hunger Games. This new yoga class is open to all body types and experience levels and costs $15. Mats and props will be available.

Dungeons & Dragons Thursday

What: Gaming
When: Thursday, November 9th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: GlitchGQ

Come to GlitchHQ on the second Thursday of every month for an open game of Dungeons & Dragons, welcoming new and experienced players alike. The game is played in an open or sandbox style, so don’t worry about missing individual sessions for overarching story. Just show up, roll up, survive, and level up. Materials and rules provided.

Crafty Geek/Make it Sew

What: Crafting, Meetup
When: Thursday, November 9th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Event Horizon

The Geek Partnership Society’s Crafty Geek club and its sub-club Make It Sew meet Thursday evenings at the Waterbury Center and invite you to “bring your crafty stuff to do” or to “hang out and work with the crafty stuff we have here!”

J. Courtney Sullivan at Content Bookstore

What: Books
When: Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Content Bookstore

J. Courtney Sullivan, the acclaimed writer of The Engagements, Maine, and Commencement, will be at Content Bookstore in Northfield for a reading and discussion of her new novel, Saints for All Occasions, a story of two sisters leaving their small village in Ireland to travel to America and the different lives they make for themselves.

Geek Slink Belly Dance

What: Sports & Fitness
When: Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: YQdio

Geek Slink is a bellydance class intended to be a welcoming and safe space to focus on fun, fusion, and fitness. Classes are open to any level of experience, body type, and gender. Classes are $15 for walk-ins, or $60 for a five-class punch card. Free trial classes are available.

The Room Screening Party

What: Movies
When: Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Landmark Lagoon Cinema

The Room is a critical work in the canon of modern bad movies (especially the subgenre of surprisingly well-funded vanity projects) and the subject of the upcoming film The Disaster Artist. This party is a chance to see The Room for free, along with extra fun like inflatable footballs, pizza, spoons, and more. You can claim tickets by visiting and entering the code THEROOMMSP. Johnny, Mark, and Lisa cosplay is strongly encouraged.

Weekly Comics Chat

What: Meetup, Comics
When: Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Kitty Cat Klub

The Girls-Only Comic Club hosts a Weekly Comics Chat on Thursday nights at the Kitty Cat Klub, where there will be “Coffee! Comics! Waffles! Talking!” Additional information about this event is posted on the Girls Only Comic Club’s Facebook group. Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to join.

Trivia Against Humanity

Where: Clockwerks Brewing

This regular event at Clockwerks Brewing represents the convergence of two geeky favorites: a steampunk-themed bar and absurd trivia. The event is hosted by Sam Spadino and Sidney Oxborough.

Friday Night Magic

What: Gaming, Meetup
When: Friday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Mischief Toy Store

Mischief Toy Store in St. Paul invites you to experience some Magic with them this Friday night. Entry is $5; all players will receive prizes. This weekly event is limited to 24 players and typically lasts until about 9:00 p.m. All skill levels are welcome

VR Night

When: Friday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: GlitchMN

As we careen into the future, we come closer and closer to the geeky dream of being able to disappear into the holodeck and never emerge. Come to Glitch to try modern-virtual reality games that show how close we’ve come to that civilization-ending dream. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Superhot VR, Rick and Morty: Virtual Rickality, Star Wars Battlefront VR, Batman: Arkham VR, and more will be available.

Literature Lovers Night Out

When: Friday, November 10th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Trinity Lutheran Church

The Literature Lovers Night Out brings together featured authors and books fans with host Pamela Klinger-Horn. There will be light refreshments, prize drawings, and great guests including William Kent Krueger (Sulfur Springs), Michael Perry (Montaigne in Barn Boots), Jacquelyn Vincenta (The Lake and the Lost Girl), Stephanie Gangi (The Next), and Nicole Baart (Little Broken Things). Read the Book/See the Movie

This monthly club looks at films and their literary inspirations. Each meeting begins with a bit of social time, then at 7:30 p.m., the movie screening itself begins. Per the event listing, email club organizers for further information.

3D 35mm Weekend Spectacular!

When: Friday, November 10th at 7:00 p.m. to Saturday, November 11th at 11:00 p.m.
Where: Parkway Theater

See 35mm prints of classic 3D films at the Parkway Theater’s 3D 35mm Weekend Spectacular. This is a great opportunity to see classic movies in three glorious dimensions: StarCrash, Friday the 13th, Frankenstein’s Bloody Terror 3D, Treasure of the Four Crowns 3D, and Dynasty 3D are all on offer. Films vary in price, starting at $10, and a weekend pass is available for $35.

Tsuinishi Anime Club

Anime Twin Cities has joined forces with the Geek Partnership Society “to bring a little bit of fun to you on the second and fourth Fridays of each month with this cosponsored anime club.” The group will show various anime movies and series

MN Publishing Tweet Up

When: Saturday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Common Good Books

The MN Publishing Tweet Up will be gathering once more at a favorite St. Paul purveyor of the written word, Common Good Books. The is a great opportunity to meet up with fellow lit geeks, publishers, writers, and more. Pick up a couple books, a cup of coffee, and some great conversation. This event is made possible by the MN Publishers Roundtable and the Authors Guild.

Call to Adventure Yoga

What: Sports & Fitness
When: Saturday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: YQdio

Prepare for your own Hero’s Journey with this Yoga class focused on pose exploration, led by YogaQuest’s Kat. This class will focus on learning yoga poses in depth and incorporating yoga flow into these poses. Cost is $15.

Protospiel-Mini: A 1-Day Twin Cities Area Playtesting Event

When: Saturday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Level-Up Games

Protospiel-Mini is your opportunity to help take great gaming ideas and make them even better by playing and seeing what works. Playests will last from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and this event is free, so there’s plenty of opportunity to help out and have some fun. There will be concessions on sale at the venue, and there are a number of restaurants within walking distance.

Doctor Who Meetup: “The Girl in the Fireplace” and “Oxygen”

When: Saturday, November 11th at 1:00 p.m.
Where: Parkway Theater

The Twin Cities Doctor Who Meetup group will be holding its October event at the Parkway Theater, screening the episodes “School Reunion” and “Knock Knock.” Enjoy some Who with other Whovians!

Saturday Night Space Opera: Beyond Westworld

When: Saturday, November 11th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Source Comics and Games

Twin Cities science-fiction-RPG night Saturday Night Space Opera returns to the Source with a set of sci-fi games modeled after other offerings from Westworld‘s Delos corporation. Play a game of Fate Accelerated set in a time of absolute monarchs, musketeers, and intrigue or play a game of Traveler set in Futureworld, the sci-fi equivalent of Westworld. As always with Saturday Night Space Opera, this is a free event; feel free to bring your own dice if you have them, and don’t worry about making characters. Pregenerated characters are provided. Shieldmaiden Sunday

Shieldmaiden Sundays are a dedicated space for female nerds and geeks at Source. This will be a recurring weekly event providing a space for women to play games, chat about comics, cosplay, or just enjoy the company of other geeks.

Gender Jam: Gooey Science Day

What: Meetup, Community, Science & Tech
When: Sunday, November 12th at 12:30 p.m.
Where: The Exchange Minneapolis

Gender Jam is a meetup group for trans, gender-nonconforming, questioning, and intersex youth. This week, the gooey, goopy mess of science will be the main topic, with participants invited to experiment with making Slimmer Popcorn, Edible Unicorn Poop Play-Doh, Gak, Big Bubble Making, Diet Coke/Mentos, and possibly more!

Board Game Silent Auction for Charity

What: Gaming, Community
When: Sunday, November 12th at 5:00 p.m.
Where: Bad Weather Brewing

Help out Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities with this event hosted by Saint Paul Board Game Group. The main event of the night will be a cash-based silent auction for board games, running from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., but fun will be had all night, with board games, beer, and more. There’s a large selection of games to be auctioned, including favorites like Splendor, Starfarers of Catan, and Galaxy Truckers.

When: Sunday, November 12th at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Amsterdam Bar and Hall

Pundamonium is a pun slam, a contest of wordplay with 10 contestants, each given two minutes to make puns based on prompts they are given ahead of time. The audience acts as judge, and this process repeats throughout the night until a final pun-off. This night of groans and laughs is $7.

Trivia Against Humanity

When: Sunday, November 12th at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Can Can Wonderland

This regular event at Can Can Wonderland represents the convergence of two geeky favorites: high-concept mingolf/carnival fun and absurd trivia. The event is hosted by Sam Spadino and Sidney Oxborough.
