What: Concert

GoDeeper and Music of the End Times present Asukubus, a queer- and femme-fronted experimental group from Texas and Louisiana described as a “purge against the patriarchy”—a haunting, industrial, and primal sound. Along with them is La Curandera and the Ritual, which brings music and performance art together to portray the Latinx diaspora, transgender dysphoria, and ancestral mourning. Rounding out the set is EoV (Etiquette of Violence), which unites members of Delores Dewberry and Psychosomatic Ritual Death Cult for a deep and dark sound that is hard to describe. DJ Angelica Ottavia spins between sets. Admission is 21+; $10.00 cover.

Zwaremachine Be A Light All-Ages Release Show

What: Show
When: Saturday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m.

Where: Dead Media (Minneapolis, MN)

This album is amazing. I’m going to say it again: this album is amazing. I was completely blown away by it. Released on April 11th, Mach Fox has hit an all time high with this album. Every note, every lyric, every synth is spot on. With beautifully composed and mixed music, Minnesota group Zwaremachine has risen high on my list of favorite bands and favorite albums. At Dead Media on May 12, there will be sets by Zwaremachine and ENDIF, DJ sets by CGW, and CDs, cassettes, and posters available for purchase. You can also check out Zwaremachine’s other release party this month on May 17, below.

Northern Invasion 2018

What: Concert Weekend
When: Saturday and Sunday, May 12th and 13th starting at 11:00 a.m.
Where: Somerset Amphitheater (Somerset, WI)

Okay, I know this one is technically not goth—however, there are a ton of excellent rock bands in the lineup. Plus, Saturday night is headlined by A Perfect Circle and Sunday is headlined by Tool, so all the Maynard James Keenan you can handle. General admission full-weekend tickets are still available now for $129.50 (plus fees) but go up to $150.00 nearer to the event. Single-day tickets are $70.00 now, $80.00 later. Camping packages are sold out.

World Goth Day

What: Holiday
When: Tuesday, May 22nd
Where: Everywhere

World Goth Day was founded in the United Kingdom in 2009 and has become a worldwide holiday of celebration for all things goth. It’s a day to love who we are, love what we do, what we enjoy, what we wear, and how we live our lives. The Hocico show (above) is a great way to spend the evening, but really it’s a day for you, my goth friends, to just be you. Go hug a goth (with their consent).

Gothess Presents Dark Wave and Goth Dance Night

What: Club Night
When: Thursday, May 24th at 9:30 p.m.
Where: Honey (Minneapolis, MN)

Gothess’s monthly nights continue with dark-wave and goth tracks to keep you swaying and dancing in the darkness and fog. This month’s DJs are DJ Miss Q, DJ Mercury, Illuminate Steele, and DJ Heartbreak, with visuals by Leda Zawacki. Admission is 21+ and a $5.00 cover.

Leo Presents: Combichrist (Everybody Still Hates You Tour)

What: Concert
When: Tuesday, May 29th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: The Cabooze (Minneapolis, MN)

Combichrist is back in town again to bring the group’s signature sound, exceptionally danceable tracks, and some controversy. Playing the standards and making a ruckus are what Combichrist does, and they are ready to do it again at the Cabooze. Their brand of music is not for everyone, but they do put on an energetic show that can be worth seeing at least once. They are touring this time with Wednesday 13, Night Club, Prison, and Death Valley High. Admission is 18+, $20.00 in advance or $25.00 at the door.

Sanctuary Festival

What: Concert Weekend
When: Thursday, May 31st–Saturday, June 2nd
Where: Club Anything (Milwaukee, WI)

Bear with me here. Yes, it’s in Milwaukee, and at that point you might as well go to Chicago, but there are two very good reasons why you should think about going. One, local band and promoters Absynthe of Faith are on the docket for Saturday, and they are awesome. Two, Suicide Commando is saying this will be the band’s farewell to touring the United States tour, they are amazing live, and they’ve never come close to Minneapolis. I flew down to Austin, Texas, to see them the first time they toured here, and it was worth cramped coach airfare and being around a bunch of people I didn’t know. Also, there are a ton of other really excellent bands. Admission is 21+, single-day tickets are $27.50, 2-day passes are $50.50, and the full VIP, 3-day, meet-and-greet, early-admission bonanza is $100.00. That’s a bargain at twice the price.

Bondage A-Go-Go

What: Club Night
When: Saturdays from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Where: Ground Zero Nightclub (Minneapolis, MN)

Ground Zero has been the goth community’s mainstay for nearly 24 years. Today it is the best place to grab a drink and dance to the best music the goth world has to offer (and some it hasn’t). With three rotating DJs keeping the music fresh and interesting, it sets the scene for what’s going on in the back—where the in-house dominatrixes keep your blood pumping with safe and consensual scenes you can either watch or participate in (after signing up, staying sober until your time, and tipping the mistress). No photos, 21+, $7.00 cover, cash-only bar. Come casual or dress to impress.
