Grand Poobah

Hal Bichel grew up on a farm in Wisconsin with a 28.8kbps modem and a pile of Star Trek novels for company. She played a lot of MUDs and eventually made her first website in Notepad at 13 years old. To this day, Hal has never really kicked the habit of front-end dev . . . or Star Trek.

In 2005, Hal moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. She graduated in 2009 with a BA in English and, having met some great friends in the local science-fiction and fantasy community, stuck around.

A cat herder by nature, Hal maintained a World of Warcraft guild for a decade and has been keeping the peace as an admin on many different Facebook groups for a number of years. She’s taken the leadership feat several times and has a lot of points stacked in Charisma and Wisdom. Constitution is a dump stat, so don’t sneeze around her.

In 2014, Hal got the idea for Twin Cities Geek and began putting the project together, using her professional experience in search-engine optimization, website design, and community management to create a hub for geeks of all walks in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota to find each other, share their passions, and have their voices boosted both in fandom and in more mainstream spheres. Twin Cities Geek launched in January of 2015, and Hal has been steering the project since.
