Twin Cities Geek Adds Subreddit, Discord Server, and More
It has always been a goal of the Twin Cities Geek organization to provide online spaces where topics important to members of Minnesota geek communities can be discussed in fun, constructive, responsible, and impactful ways.
Twin Cities Geek got its start on Facebook, but it is important for us to expand beyond that platform. If we want to be inclusive, we cannot limit our online community space to one third-party website whose policies are constantly evolving in directions we cannot predict. What if Facebook suddenly becomes (even more) unfriendly to LGBTQAI+ people? What if Facebook shuts down, or even just goes down for several days? And what about the people who don’t want to be part of Facebook at all for their own reasons? That is why Twin Cities Geek has been building up its presence elsewhere—so you can still be part of the Minnesota geek community online, wherever you prefer.
We have been on Twitter and Tumblr since 2014 and on Instagram and Slack since 2017. Now, we are proud to launch and invite everyone to our brand-new subreddit, Discord server, and Steam group!
Twin Cities Geeks Subreddit
The Twin Cities Geeks subreddit is a the space on reddit for connecting with your Minnesota geek community. Join r/twincitiesgeeks to share links, memes, news, and images, and engage in discussion with other Minnesota geeks about a wide variety of topics.
Twin Cities Geeks Discord Server
The Twin Cities Geeks Discord server has a variety of channels for chatting with other Minnesota geeks about a range of topics. It’s a great place to hang out between games or in the evenings to stay connected while you clock some time in your favorite games.
Twin Cities Geeks Steam Group
The Twin Cities Geeks Steam group is a space for Minnesota gamers on Steam to connect, chat, trade games, and play together.
Of course, our Facebook group and page are not going away, and neither are any of our other online spaces (other than Google+, which Google has already retired). This is all about giving you more options and making our community more robust no matter what happens with any one website or service. Check out our Groups & Social page for a breakdown of all the Twin Cities Geek virtual spaces you can join and participate in. And, of course, our free community calendar will remain open for you to add your events to or find cool things to do in—as it is commonly known—the meatspace.
