Minnesota Goth Events and Gatherings for July 2019

Welcome back to Minnesota Dark Scene, your guide to goth events and gatherings, for July 2019. There is plenty happening this month, with fun things to do whether or not you’ll be at CONvergence this year.

Special Events

ESA Live Featuring Kounter Mezhure

What: Concert
When: Tuesday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m.
Where: The Red Sea Restaurant and Bar (Minneapolis)

Coming to Minneapolis directly from Seattle’s Mechanismus festival, ESA: Electronic Substance Abuse brings electronic inferno and heavy rhythmic style to the Red Sea. Joining the group is Kounter Mezhure out of Texas, a side project of Los Vincent of Torque Order with haunting melodies and an aggressive vocal style. Locals Zwaremachine will be rounding out the lineup for this excellent event. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and 21+.

When: Friday, July 5, at 9:00 p.m.
Where: First Avenue (Minneapolis)

DJ Jake Rudh hosts an evening of ’80s goodies and spooky themes with Transmission’s Stranger Things event. Dress up for the theme and get down to some amazing tunes. If you have a Twins ticket stub from July 5, you will get $3 off at the door! This event is 18+; tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door.

Altered States with Justin Aulis Long and L. Sangre

What: Concert
When: Saturday, June 6, at 9:30 p.m.
Where: Loring Bar and Restaurant (Minneapolis)

Dark Energy is hosting another Altered States night, bringing in two powerhouse DJs for the evening. Justin Aulis Long hails from Chicago and works to create psychedelic and surreal sounds for an amazing dance experience. L. Sangre from New York City is industrial and more to feed your soul with beats to get you moving. DJ Grant Mayland spins between sets, and lighting is by Endif. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, and 18+.

Dragons Lair Performing Arts Presents: Hedonistic Fridays

What: Club Night
When: Friday, July 12, at 10:00 p.m.
Where: The Saloon (Minneapolis)

The creators of the Forbidden Bazaar are ramping things up in 2019 with their new night, Boys Night Out, at the Saloon. The men of Dragons Lair come together for a night of fire performances, aerial acrobatics, boylesque, stilts, contortion, pole dancing, go-go dancing, and shibari suspensions. Head down and give them some (consenting) love.

GothiCoffee

What: Gathering
When: Wednesday, July 17, at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Amore Coffee (West St. Paul)

GothiCoffee is a monthly roving gathering that gives darksiders the opportunity to get together over some coffee and chat about all manner of things. It’s a casual event, is open to all ages, and free, though buying a drink at the coffeehouse of the month is encouraged.

The Forbidden Bazaar Presents: Seven Deadly Sins

What: Club Night
When: Friday, July 19, at 10:00 p.m.
Where: Ground Zero Nightclub (Minneapolis)

The Forbidden Bazaar brings you a Seven Deadly Sins themed event. Dress to the theme and enjoy the flow-friendly dance floor. DJs for the evening include DJ Noise. The usual entertainments will be on offer, including aerial acrobatics, fire magic, burlesque, suspension, a photo booth, and more. This event is 21+, and cover is $10 with a costume or $15 without.

The Elysium Society Goth Picnic

What: Picnic
When: Saturday, July 20, at 3:00 p.m.
Where: Minnehaha Falls (Minneapolis)

The Elysium Society hosts its annual goth picnic, bringing together local goths and their families for a day of grilling and games. Bring a chair, a fun outdoor-friendly game, and some food to share. We have a big community, and it’s always fun to have a relaxing day together. This is free and all ages. Bring the kids!

Dark Energy Presents: Yacht Goth

What: Club Night
When: Saturday, July 20, at 6:45 p.m.
Where: Paradise Lady Yacht (Minneapolis)

Dark Energy is hosting another 21+ Yacht Goth event aboard the gorgeous Paradise Lady. Enjoy a maritime dance party with tons of exceptional music as you cruise down the Mississippi River. Dress for the theme and dance to music put on by DJs Grant Mayland, Hyperkarma, Die/Aspora, and Prsphne. Tickets should be bought in advance for $40. Tickets for the afterparty at the Nomad are $5, or $2 if you buy at the same time as your cruise tickets.

3Teeth with Author and Punisher, Gost

What: Concert
When: Monday, July 22, at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Skyway Theatre (Minneapolis)

Los Angeles–based industrial act 3Teeth has risen quite steadily in popularity over the last few years and is coming to the Skyway for your enjoyment. Joining the group is Author and Punisher out of California and Gost. Tickets are 18+ and $18 in advance.

Gothess Presents: The Gathering

What: Club Night
When: Thursday, July 25, at 9:30 p.m.
Where: Honey (Minneapolis)

As the members of the Gothess crew expand and creates new things for themselves, they are taking this month to come together and celebrate with the original DJs. Join DJs Miss Q, Mercury, Hyperkarma, and VJ Wednesday as they put on a fabulous night celebrating all things Gothess. This event is 21+ and $5 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting RAICES.

A Midsummer Night’s Scream

What: Club Night
When: Friday, July 26, at 10:00 p.m.
Where: Ground Zero Nightclub (Minneapolis)

For this night to celebrate summer and being three-quarters of the way to Halloween, Ground Zero invites you to dress up and come on out for a night of all things spooky. DJ Overdrive and crew provide the music, and the venue brings the ambiance. This event is 21+; cover is $5 with a costume or $7 without.

Stabbing Westward

What: Concert
When: Sunday, July 28, at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Skyway Theatre (Minneapolis)

Stabbing Westward has been delighting us with industrial rock since the release of the group’s first album in 1994. Now, 25 years after that release, they are still going strong and coming to rock Minneapolis. Joining them on stage are our local friends Absynthe of Faith and Depotek. This event is 18+, and tickets are $25 in advance.

Weekly Events

Transmission with DJ Jake Rudh

What: Club Night
When: Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m.
Where: Uptown VFW (Minneapolis)

For 17 years, DJ Jake Rudh has been bringing the best of ’80s new wave and synthpop to the clubs every Wednesday (and more recently to the airwaves on the Current every Thursday). Transmission is an amazing night of music, videos, dancing, and ’80s nostalgia for all fans, and there are people who have met and gotten married thanks to this unparalleled night of music. Come out and see what it’s all about; you won’t regret it. This event is 21+ and free!

Across the Board with DJ SLT

What: Radio Show
When: Fridays from 2:00 to 6:00 a.m.; All Tarantino Night July 12
Where: 90.3 FM Minneapolis/106.7 FM St. Paul or online at KFAI Community Radio

DJ SLT has been bringing his wide-ranging musical interests to KFAI for over 10 years. His show features anything and everything from ’70s glam rock to EBM, industrial, pop, and all the David Bowie you never knew existed. DJ SLT frequently has theme nights, guest hosts, collaborations, and collectors’ corners to make a varied and greatly interesting radio show worth staying awake for. He also plays his own original works under the name Kradis.

She’s In Control: Gothic Radio Hour

What: Radio Show
When: Thursdays from 2:00 to 4:00 a.m.
Where: 90.3 FM Minneapolis/106.7 FM St. Paul or online at KFAI Community Radio

The history of Goth and alternative culture, and damn good music with DJ Mercury. Every Wednesday night/ early Thursday morning from 2-4am on KFAI, 90.3FM, Fresh Air Community Radio.

Bondage A-Go-Go

What: Club Night
When: Saturdays from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Where: Ground Zero Nightclub (Minneapolis)

Ground Zero has been the goth community’s mainstay for 24 years. Today it is the best place to grab a drink and dance to the best music the goth world has to offer (and some it hasn’t). With three rotating DJs keeping the music fresh and interesting, it sets the scene for what’s going on in the back—where the in-house dominatrixes keep your blood pumping with safe and consensual scenes you can either watch or participate in (after signing up, staying sober until your time, and tipping the mistress). No photos, 21+, $7 cover, cash-only bar. Come casual or dress to impress.
