Trade War Is Political Strife for the Whole Family

Ever since the phenomenally successful Cards against Humanity took over the party-gaming genre, a wave of darker and edgier card games have found their way into stores—and onto Kickstarter. One of the latest, Trade War by Tuttifi, takes the number- and color-matching mechanic from Uno, adds an irreverent take on current events, and ends up with a game that is simple to play, with a few twists that help distinguish it from its innocuous predecessor.

Players take on the identities of world leaders and other entities involved in the US-China trade war, each with their own special power, from Donald Trump’s immunity to Twitter War, Baby Trump, and Bad Hair Day cards to Xi Jinping’s ability to defuse the player-eliminating Nukes once per game. Rather than having to remember to say a special word upon running out of cards, a player must instead roll the Trade Die, whose six sides each feature one of the playable characters. If the player rolls their character, they’ve come out on top in the trade war and are declared the winner; otherwise, they must draw a new hand of seven cards and start all over again.

Trade War’s Kickstarter campaign ends December 19, 2019.
