Keystone’s Foodmobile and Other Services Are Helping Fight COVID-19 in Minnesota, and You Can Help

Minnesotans are stepping up and making a difference during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I want to make sure people know about all the organizations out there doing great work and helping during this crisis and beyond. I’m profiling a different nonprofit each day to share their information and their story.

Today’s organization is Keystone Community Services, led by my good friend Mary McKeown (I have a lot of good friends who run nonprofits!). Now in its 81st year, Keystone began as a small neighborhood community center and has grown into one of the top service providers in Ramsey County, serving more than 35,000 individuals a year through a variety of programming and human services. Its name comes from the central wedge-shaped stone in an arch that locks the pieces together, thereby supporting the whole—a fitting description for an organization that serves to strengthen and support the community.

Mary and her team provide community-based services aimed at strengthening the community, including young people and families, seniors, and those needing food services or crisis support. Like my organization, Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Keystone comes out of the settlement-house movement and deliver high-quality, evidence-based services in neighborhood gathering places that make the community stronger.

During the pandemic, Keystone has continued to operate its Meals on Wheels deliveries and food-shelf operations in two locations, as well as its Foodmobile distributions Monday through Friday, to provide vital food support to people in the community.
