Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf Is Providing Food On-Site and by Delivery during COVID-19 in Minnesota, and You Can Help

Minnesotans are stepping up and making a difference during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I want to make sure people know about all the organizations out there doing great work and helping during this crisis and beyond. I’m profiling a different nonprofit each day to share their information and their story.

Established in 1983 at Woodbury Lutheran Church, Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf (CCEFS), led by my friend and colleague Jessica Francis, is a mainstay in the community helping people in need. In its first year of operation, CCEFS had an average of five households coming in each week for food support. In 2018, it left its original home to open a new building on the grounds of Guardian Angels Church, which has allowed the organization to greatly expand their programs and operations. In 2019, it distributed over 1 million pounds of food.

CCEFS provides a variety of food choices, personal care items, and referral resources to individuals and families in need. Its volunteers work with clients to help them connect to the resources and find the food that best fits their household. In recently launched the Wildcard Wednesday program and expanded its Produce Fair program.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, CCEFS continues to help people in need. All of the organization’s programs are now provided through weekly drive-up service as well as food deliveries managed by Washington County in cooperation with the food shelf.
