Loaves and Fishes Is Continuing Its Free Meals for Minnesotans during COVID-19, and You Can Help

Minnesotans are stepping up and making a difference during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I want to make sure people know about all the organizations out there doing great work and helping during this crisis and beyond. I’m profiling a different nonprofit each day to share their information and their story.

Loaves and Fishes, led by my good friend Cathy Maes, is a daily, free healthy lunch and dinner program serving Minnesotans in need. Founded in 1982, it provides thousands of meals every day at its dining sites in Minneapolis (St. Stephen’s) and St. Paul (Dorothy Day Center) and elsewhere across Minnesota. It is the largest open-to-the-public free meal program in the state.

In addition to its public dining sites, Loaves and Fishes’ food rescue operation collects good food from partnering restaurants, schools, and businesses to bring healthy mobile meals to urban locations, offer a free produce market in North Minneapolis, and more.

The organization is continuing to serve wherever there is hunger during the pandemic. Guests still receive healthy and safe meals to go, served by volunteers who maintain safe food handling procedures certified by ServSafe standards. If you or someone you know needs a meal, you can find locations on the Loaves and Fishes website.

Volunteers are needed to provide these crucial meals to our fellow Minnesotans, so if you are interested in pitching in yourself or would like to support them, check out the volunteer page to learn how to help!
