4 New Podcasts Worth Checking Out

There are a ton of podcasts out there in the wild world of audio. Trying to sift through even one genre can take a long time—looking at you, true crime—and every podcast is different, for better or worse. This list is here to help!

All of the podcasts here were released in November 2020. Hopefully you will find something new for you!

1. I Saw What You Did

Millie and Danielle are the hosts of I Saw What You Did, a double-feature film podcast. For each episode, they pick a theme—the first one was “Esteemed Dirtbags”—and two movies that fit within it. It’s so much fun to listen to the antics of these two hosts. The audio is on point, the chemistry is there, and these women know what they are talking about when it comes to film.

2. The Back Page: A Video Games Podcast

Video game podcasts are a dime a dozen. Most game news outlets have their own; IGN alone has multiple podcasts. Given that, The Back Page isn’t doing anything groundbreaking per se, but Matthew and Samuel’s topics are both timely and about their personal experiences in video game journalism. One thing that really stuck out to me was their awareness. So many podcasters don’t seem aware that diversity in perspectives matters, and diversity is lacking in video game culture especially. These two hosts seem to realize that and plan to have guests that will help with different opinions. It’s definitely worth a listen if you are tired of the mainstream podcasts.

3. It’s a Wonderful Lie

There aren’t that many holiday podcasts, and it was a pleasant surprise to find It’s a Wonderful Lie. Hosts Ashley, Holly, and Greg read Christmas newsletters, that tradition from long before Facebook updates and #blessed posts of sending an update via letter or email to basically brag about how well you are doing. The hosts roast these newsletters, and it’s quite hilarious. It’s a great way to forget how terrible a year 2020 has been.

4. The Worst Song on Earth

Songs that are so bad they’re good are so much fun—especially at a karaoke bar where there is no shame in trying to sing “One Week” by Barenaked Ladies. In this podcast, Jonathan, Chris, and Andy go on a quest to try and find the titular Worst Song on Earth. The format is that a host picks a song they believe is worthy of the title and tries to convince the others why it’s the worst. You will definitely laugh at the lengths they go to prove their point. The first episode takes a deep dive into weird Swedish music, so you know this show is going to be unique at the very least.
