You Can Get Your COVID-19 Vaccine or Booster at Twin Cities Con This Weekend

We at Twin Cities Geek are cautiously emerging from our COVID-19 lockdown to exhibit on October 2 and 3 at Twin Cities Con (no relation!), our first convention appearance since the start of the pandemic. The con is requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test dated within 72 hours for admission, and now there’s more: Governor Tim Walz has announced a pop-up vaccination clinic at the Minneapolis Convention Center during Twin Cities Con on Sunday, October 3, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.—and any Minnesotan who gets their free vaccine there will receive 25% off their admission to next year’s convention!

The one-dose Johnson & Johnson and two-dose Pfizer vaccines will be available at the clinic for Minnesotans age 12 and older. You don’t have to be attending Twin Cities Con to take advantage of this vaccination site, and no appointment is required (but you can make one in advance—more on that below). Governor Walz says:

Whether you are due for a booster or are just finally ready to get your first dose, there’s no better place to get the vaccine than the location closest to you. The Avengers know it best: When we come together, we are stronger. So get out to Twin Cities Con, roll up your sleeves, and get your shot to keep you and your loved ones strong and safe.

Twin Cities Con founder Ben Penrod adds, “We’re happy to host this vaccination station at Twin Cities Con. COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on the live event industry. I’m counting on more people to get vaccinated to ensure that we can continue to run events like ours safely.”

First and second vaccine doses are currently available for free for Minnesotans 12 and older. Boosters are available for those who received their initial series at least six months ago and fall into one of the following groups:

• people 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster
• people aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster
• people aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster
• people aged 18–64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting (e.g. frontline medical workers, teachers, and first responders) may receive a booster

To receive a booster, you will need to show your original COVID-19 vaccination card or a paper or electronic copy (or the original or a copy of an alternative official vaccination record from a non-US vaccination).
