MinnAnimate Is Back and Seeking Submissions for Its 2022 Animation Festival
MinnAnimate, an annual Minnesota showcase of indie animation, is back for 2022 after a two-year hiatus. The festival is currently seeking shorts of all types—as the website assures creators, “no movie is too short or too weird for MinnAnimate!” Works must be less than 10 minutes long and created after January 1, 2021. There is no fee, and submissions are open until July 31, 2022.
The festival was founded in 2012 by John Akre, who ran it until 2020. It’s now managed by another local animator, CC Stanhill. “As a brand-new self-taught animator back in 2015, John Akre’s MinnAnimate was the first place I found community and encouragement. I’ve thought of it as my home festival ever since,” Stanhill says. “I am committed to keeping the festival just as inclusive, just as weird, and just as free as it always was during John’s tenure. Creating animation—especially independently—tends to be a lonely business, so a big part of MinnAnimate’s goal is to bring these lonely art weirdos together to meet and celebrate each other!”
Accepted work will be screened on September 8, 2022, at the Main Theatre in Minneapolis, which has been under the management of the MSP Film Society since spring of this year. For more information or to submit your film, visit MinnAnimate.com.
