Remembering Yu-Gi-Oh! Creator Kazuki Takahashi
Nobody could have ever seen it coming. On July 6, 2022, the body of manga creator Kazuki Takahashi was discovered in the waters of Okinawa Prefecture. Japan Coast Guard officials stated that Takahashi was wearing snorkeling equipment, and signs indicate he had been deceased for at least a few days before his body was discovered by a passing boat. The autopsy report later confirmed that the official cause of death was drowning and that there were no signs of foul play. He was 60 years old.
Takahashi’s work with the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise has meant a lot to me personally, especially during my middle school years, because it allowed me to connect with other kids who enjoyed the same geeky things I did. I gained many friends who enjoyed drawing, playing games, and collecting trading cards, and as a result, my tastes in media expanded to include video games. I would likely have never met some of the closest friends I have today if I had never hopped on the Duel Monsters bandwagon as a youngster.
I wish the friends and family of Kazuki Takahashi all the love and support that they need, and more.
