6 October 2022 Anime Premieres to Be Excited About

Ah, fall! It’s easy to see why the transitional season between summer and winter is so beloved: the air is crisp but not too cold, apples are ripe for the picking, and the trees are turning all shades of beautiful reds. For us anime watchers, however, the arrival of fall also means the premieres of new anime and new seasons of existing series. Regardless of whether or not you enjoyed what this summer had to offer to the anime community, I think it’s safe to say that the fall lineup of 2022 is sure to impress.

1. Chainsaw Man

Let’s kick things off with an anime that everyone has been looking forward to since 2020. All main man Denji really wants is to live a peaceful life with the woman of his dreams, but as long as there are devils around, he’ll have to hack and slash all over the city just to survive. Chainsaw Man promises an action-packed gore fest, just in time for Halloween! As someone who watched Happy Tree Friends as a youngster, I was just as excited as everyone else for this long-awaited premiere.

2. Do It Yourself!!

Platform: Crunchyroll

On the more lighthearted end of the spectrum, Do It Yourself!! is a slice-of-life school comedy about a group of high school girls working on DIY projects. Through trial and error, our leading ladies learn the importance of tenacity and the necessity of failure. With a lively cast of characters, Do-It-Yourself!! is an anime to keep an eye on.

3. Uchi no Shishō wa Shippo ga Nai (My Master Has No Tail)

Looking for a cute and cuddly supernatural comedy? The magical adventures of tanuki girl Mameda have you covered! Our heroine is a shapeshifting creature who dreams of becoming a human but quickly runs into trouble after arriving in Osaka. Luckily, she soon gains a mentor in the form of Bunko Daikokutei, a more experienced yōkai who agrees to teach Mameda her ways. Historical pieces are my jam, so this is definitely on my radar.

4. C Danchi (Housing Complex C)

Platform: Adult Swim/HBO Max

Looking for something even more Halloween appropriate than Chainsaw Man? Anyone who has lived in a run-down apartment building can tell you that there’s no shortage of possible problems, but I’m certain that “ancient evil entity” is not on anyone’s list. Protagonist Kimi is a new resident in the titular Housing Complex C, but she soon finds that horrific occurrences follow its tenants. Can Kimi survive the evil that haunts her new home, or will she succumb to its hellish forces?

5. Mushikaburi-Hime (Bibliophile Princess)

Platform: HiDive

How much do you like books? Not as much as Eliana Bernstein, I bet! Although it is her noble duty to get hitched to a high-class man, our leading lady has always preferred the company of books to real people. Luckily for her, an arrangement with a nobleman means she can keep indulging her favorite pastime while also getting her parents off her back. The shōjo-style promotional art promises a historical drama for the ages, and as a bookworm myself, I am stoked!

6. Bocchi the Rock!

Platform: Crunchyroll

Based on the title and the promotional image alone, I could deduce that Bocchi the Rock! combines two things I love: relatable socially anxious characters and rock music. The story centers on guitarist Hitori Gotō, who dreams of playing in a band but is too painfully shy to even make one friend. Basically, imagine if the cast of Hitoribocchi no OO Seikatsu decided to form a rock band, that is Bocchi the Rock! in a nutshell.
