This month, Theater Mu is producing the world premiere of Minnesota playwright and poet Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay’s The Kung Fu Zombies Saga: Shaman Warrior & Cannibals, and you and a friend could see it for free!

Directed by Lily Tung Crystal, the show examines the effects of colonialism and the Secret War in Laos through the story of a zombie apocalypse set in that country. It’s a follow-up to Kung Fu Zombies vs. Cannibals, which was Theater Mu’s highest-grossing production when it premiered in 2013—the first half of the new show serves as a prequel to the previous production, while the second half presents a new version of Cannibals.

Duangphouxay Vongsay explains, “Shaman Warrior takes a look at mental illness, mental health, and the power of ancestry and culture. Cannibals addresses the legacies and consequences of war and how the US dropped more than 270 million tons of bombs on Laos. The Kung Fu Zombies plays make world history and taboo topics more interesting and accessible through use of humor, a hip hop-inspired score, horror, and fantasy.” The show features more than a dozen martial arts scenes staged by fight choreographer Allen Malicsi and an original soundtrack composed by DJ Kool Akiem.

The Fine Print

No purchase necessary. Total number of prizes is 2, each consisting of 2 tickets to The Kung Fu Zombies Saga: Shaman Warrior & Cannibals at the Luminary Arts Center (retail value $90). Tickets may be redeemed for any show between July 23 and August 13, 2023 (subject to seating availability), at least three business days in advance. Any other expenses incurred as a result of winning this prize, including taxes, are the sole responsibility of the winner.

How to Enter: Enter through the Gleam giveaway using one or more of the provided methods by 5:00 p.m. Central time on July 12, 2023.

Selection and Notification of Winner: Winners will be randomly selected using the Gleam platform and notified using the email address provided at entry. Odds of winning are dependent on the number of entries received. If Twin Cities Geek is unable to reach a selected winner within 48 hours of selection, or if the winner is ineligible or otherwise unable to accept their prize, the above process will be repeated until the prize has been successfully awarded.
