7 Spring 2026 Anime Releases I’m Excited For

Is it just me, or does the spring season come with the most exciting anime-related news?

Some big names have reentered the spotlight, alongside some very promising newcomers, all of which will bring their own flavor of entertainment to the table. But which titles am I most looking forward to? This season’s lineup of releases is particularly exciting, so narrowing it down was no small task, but somehow I managed to pick just seven series that premiered in April (presented in no particular order).

1. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4

Rimuru Tempest has come a long way since the day he awoke in that dragon’s cave, but his journey to bridge the divide between humanity and monsters is still far from over. The Jura-Tempest Federation is about to face some major opponents in its quest for expansion, not least of which being the notorious Granbell Rosso and his granddaughter Mariabell. The fourth season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is set to be its biggest yet: According to AnimeSpotlight, it will contain over 60 (yes, 60!) episodes, all of which will be shown over a massive five-cour period, with the first two being broadcast consecutively throughout the month of April. With such a staggering schedule, expectations are through the roof, and I cannot wait to see how the next installment of the slime king’s saga unfolds!

2. Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4

The wait is over: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is entering its long-anticipated Music Festival arc, and we will see Iruma and his friends pour their blood, sweat, and tears into creating a performance worthy of the Lilith’s Carpet! There will be struggles both within and outside of the festival’s walls, with some members even threatening to withdraw from the group altogether. Iruma-kun may have become well respected by high-ranking demons, but will it be enough to propel his class into stardom? Nothing is certain anymore, and I cannot wait to find out.

3. Go for It, Nakamura-kun!!

Go for It, Nakamura-kun!! is one of the most anticipated manga-to-anime adaptations in recent years, and it’s not hard to see why. While my knowledge of the series is limited to the trailer, what I’ve seen is a sweet, genuine tale of an awkward boy falling in love with another boy that feel doesn’t make light of the LGBTQ community or rely on hurtful stereotypes for the sake of a cheap joke. Nakamura and Hirose’s relationship looks like it will be natural and realistic with a healthy dose of lighthearted humor. I anticipate becoming a big fan of this series.

4. Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!?

As my review of Oshiete! Galko-chan indicates, I’m a sucker for the gyaru archetype … especially when they turn out to be into geeky things like I am! Seo Takuya might seem like your typical teenage otaku, but he’s obsessed with anime aimed at girls—and he’s proud of it! Then, his world is turned on his head when he meets Kotoko Ijichi and Kei Amane, two gals who fit the stereotype on the surface, only for Seo to realize that they may or may not be into the same fandoms as he is. Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!? is all about breaking down barriers in a fun and quirky package, and I am 100 percent here for it!

5. Needy Girl Overdose

Based on an indie visual novel, Needy Girl Overdose follows a wildly popular internet idol known as OMGkawaiiangel (or simply KAngel), who has taken the world by storm with her bubbly and vivacious stage presence. Of course, now that her platform is a real-life stage and not just a streaming service, KAngel must contend with Karamazov, a trio of up-and-coming idols who threaten to usurp her crown. With the game riding on over 3 million downloads, Needy Girl Overdose promises human drama set in both pastel and gritty dark undertones that highlight the gravity of neglecting one’s mental health.

6. The Drops of God

I’m not one to indulge in alcohol, but a story like The Drops of God is enough to give me a buzz. In order to earn the right to the estate of his estranged father, Shizuku Kanzaki must prove his superior knowledge of wine by identifying and describing 13 rare wines. But he must also match wits with Issei Tomine, an up-and-coming wine critic who was closer to the old man than Shizuku. The Drops of God promises to fill my glass with a drama that is not only sophisticated but also educational, as the creators of the original manga, Shin and Yuko Kibayashi, are passionate and knowledgeable about all things related to wine.

7. Liar Game

The battle royale genre is a guilty pleasure of mine, which is why I’m super excited for the release of Liar Game. What would you do if you unexpectedly received a suitcase containing $100 million, and then learned that you you’d selected to play a high-stakes game where lies and deception reign supreme? As I am much like the leading lady Nao Kanzaki, who values honesty and transparency, my odds would be vanishingly slim, but that just means watching to see whether the protagonist will survive will be an incredible thrill ride from start to finish.
