The Character Alignments of 2026 Minnesota State Fair Foods, Rated

August is a reminder that the temperature will (thankfully) begin to drop soon, school is starting back up, and, of course, it’s time for the Minnesota State Fair. While some people go to the state fair to see lumberjack shows, the parades, or cute baby farm animals, I go for the food. Not the classic fair food (though I am a sucker for Sweet Martha’s Cookies), but the new foods that are making their debut.

In case you haven’t encountered an alignment chart (something common in D&D and other role-playing games), there are two parts to an alignment. The first word roughly indicates whether someone or something conforms to “societal” rules and expectations (lawful, neutral, or chaotic). The second word basically describes whether their goals are more selfish or the greater good (good, neutral, or evil).

Lawful Good: Hmong Corn Dog

What’s more state fair than a corn dog? Deliciously battered and deep-fried meat on a stick is what my mind goes to when I’m thinking about fair food. Union Hmong Kitchen is presenting a fun spin on the snack by using Hmong sausage to add some more fun flavors (garlic and ginger—yum!) and a little kick with some kua txob sauce on the side instead of a hot dog and ketchup. The classic stick helps you walk around with the dish, the sauce allows you to control your spice intake, and the fact that it is a corn dog with no sides means that you will (hopefully) have room for more state fair snacks as you make your way through the event!

Neutral Good: Mango Sticky Rice Refresher

Based on how this summer has gone, I’m sure fairgoers will be clamoring to get a beverage to help them cool down while they walk. Chan’s Eatery is offering a Mango Sticky Rice Refresher to help with this. With coconut, evaporated, and condensed milks poured over mango sticky rice and ice, this treat even includes mango that you can snack on! What better way to beat the heat than with a fruity drink featuring fresh mango?

Chaotic Good: French Chouxnut Sundae

What’s better than ice cream? Ice cream and a doughnut! Bridgeman’s Ice Cream is now offering its Chouxnut Sundae, which has everything you could want out of a dessert, but the pure decadence that comes from mixing these two already messy, filling treats puts it firmly into the “chaotic” section of the chart.

Lawful Neutral: Surf ’N’ Turf Burger

If you are looking for something more standard at the Minnesota State Fair, maybe you’d look for the classic burger. A burger is something simple that you can take on the go and eat without needing utensils, perfect for a day of wandering the fairgrounds. Cafe Caribe’s new Surf ’N’ Turf Burger would fill that bill with a little twist of lobster and a lemon wedge!

True Neutral: When Pigs Fly

This snack is the epitome of breaded meat on a stick. When Pigs Fly, which will be served at Sausage Sister & Me, will have a variety of flavors, ranging from Chorizo Sausage to Porketta Italian Sausage with matching sides or sauces. If you’re looking for something exciting that would be appealing to a large group of meat lovers, this would be the offering for you!

Chaotic Neutral: Pickle Pie

From LuLu’s Public House, this savory, spicy sauce is for the daring pickle-lovers attending the state fair this year. While a small, handheld savory pie with vegetables is something that you might expect at a fair, the choice of pickles and having the cream cheese frosting infused with pickle juice solidifies this dish as definitely being chaotic. I know this food option will be hit or miss, depending on who is eating it. I don’t think I’ve ever had cucumbers (let alone pickles) in my pastries.

Lawful Evil: Dubai Whoopie Pie

Following trends is definitely lawful. Being a dessert that you can easily hold in your hands and walk with is also something expected and very lawful. Additionally, being a vegetarian option to be more accessible to fairgoers is also a very lawful action a food can take. As such, this Dubai Whoopie Pie from Dino’s Gyros falls very cleanly into this category. However, I just cannot get over how chocolatey and messy I imagine pie would make my hands, covered in shredded toppings and honey. Not to mention how rich it would be! Grab a couple extra napkins and top off your water while snagging this dessert.

Neutral Evil: Bucket of Chicharrones

I will start by admitting that this placement is entirely biased. Wherever there are savory, citrusy, crispy snacks, I am there … but with how delicious they are, I always end up eating everything too fast, and the oil never sits right with my stomach. With how hot this summer has been, I’ll need to be really careful pacing myself with anything as greasy and airy as this. However, a bucket of chicharrones is something that I would definitely need to share with my friends after stopping by San Felipe Tacos. If you are part of a family or friend group that loves to try a wide assortment of foods whenever you all go to an event, I’m sure these will be a hit that everyone can munch on!

Chaotic Evil: Dill with It, Cookie!

Oookay. While having a savory pie with vegetables is a somewhat common occurrence (placing the pickle pie in the neutral category), a cookie with pickles is not. Urban Glow Mocktails is pushing the limits of what the Minnesotan would find appetizing in the hot late-summer sun. The picture of a cookie with green pickle slices strewn throughout makes this a chaotic evil pick. If you end up trying this, please let me know how it is! I am curious as to whether or not the flavors complement each other.
