The Parkway Theater Will Be Transvestite Soup’s New Home for Rocky Horror
In June, the Twin Cities got the news that Landmark Theatres, which had operated Minneapolis’s iconic Uptown Theatre for over 40 years, was being evicted from the space. Besides being a venue for both new movies and old favorites, the Uptown had long been home to Transvestite Soup’s monthly midnight shadow-cast performances of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Happily for Rocky Horror fans, Transvestite Soup has found a new home. Starting September 4, the cast will be taking the show to another historic Minneapolis theater: the Parkway. Built in 1931 and renovated in 2018, the Parkway Theater is known for its retro space, cocktail bar, and, during the pandemic, laugh-so-you-don’t cry marquees. (It also has its own podcast.)
“As sad as I am about the loss of the Uptown Theatre, you cant keep a good cast down,” Transvestite Soup producer Jenna tells Twin Cities Geek. “I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do with the new space at the Parkway and turning it into a home.”
